The 72nd Soroptimist International Convention is being held in Newcastle/Gateshead. Soroptimist International is a wordwide organisation for women in management and the professions to advance the status of women and promote human rights. The theme of the convention this year is to highlight charities for breast cancer around the world. To start the convention over 1500 members joined Newcastle to Gateshead by forming a "pink-link" across the millenium bridge. 27 October 2006
